It was my great pleasure to provide the photography for Julie and Neil’s wedding at Scone Palace near Perth. The grand venue richly deserves its five star rating and we took time to use the palace and grounds for wedding photography, enjoying the spring sunshine as we admired the venue’s resident Peacocks.

The couple had a vintage Citroen car on hand which really suited the occasion.

The wedding was conducted in Scone Palace by a local registrar. All the staff at the venue were friendly and accommodating and our small group had the palace all to ourselves. A very special day.

Congratulations to Joanne and Ross who married in Bishopton near Glasgow. Despite the venue being a large Equestrian Centre there was no horse theme. The lighting in the ceremony suite was mixed with red neon, a splash of ‘almost’ daylight and some tungsten downlighters… and very dark where the bride and groom were stood! [Note for photographers: 1/20 sec, f/4, ISO6400] I knew before the bridal party arrived that black and white processing was going to be in order for the ceremony shots.

The weather wasn’t co-operating, so we made use of the grand staircase in the art-deco style lobby of the suite for the group shots before I whisked the bride and groom away for a few minutes for some fun artistic wedding photography.

Congratulations to Samantha and David who married at the five star ‘Hotel du Vin’ in Glasgow. The wedding saw relatives from America and Australia as well as other parts of the UK come to celebrate with the bride and groom. Having the whole of No.5 Devonshire Gardens, a grand Victorian terrace building, certainly made the day special and this was a great venue for a wedding.

The name of the venue is derived from Gaelic, meaning literally “big song” and is actually a combination of several fairly distinct areas: a brasserie restaurant, events hall, pub, private dining room and a live music venue. The staff were impeccably courteous, friendly and professional making the day run smoothly and allowing the wedding party and guests to enjoy the day to the full.

After the ceremony, we went over to the botanic gardens just across the road for some photos and to give the newlyweds some time before rejoining their family and guests. The day had the feeling of spring in the air as we walked around the grounds before making our way back to Oran Mor.

Even getting there was a bit of an adventure, with me and Matt driving underneath the castle through the ‘military’ tunnel and parking right between two of the castle’s big canons – who said parking in Edinburgh was difficult?

The lovely bride Claire and her father were escorted into the chapel by a piper – which seemed to conjour up a few dozen more tourists. All part of getting married in Edinburgh!

After the ceremony, we took our time taking photographs outside the chapel near Mons Meg – an absolutely huge canon looking out over Edinburgh City – and then in several scenic spots around the grounds as we headed towards the Great Hall. The hall was not available for us to photograph in, but we were guided along by the very helpful Sandra to a room in the Royal Residence with a grand fireplace. Although the fire wasn’t real, the warmth inside was very welcome.

Having taken our shots inside with some more passing tourists for company, we finished off our Edinburgh Castle wedding with some photographs next to the canons before heading for the reception venue at Howie’s Restaurant in Waterloo Place.

This venue is a great place to get married thanks to the ornate architecture and friendly staff who make sure everything goes smoothly. It really helps when the bride and groom work with people that have so much experience with weddings in Scotland and of course that means the wedding photographer too! 22 Park Circus has become almost a second home to me over the wedding season and I always look forward to covering a marriage ceremony there.

It is easy to see why it is such a popular wedding venue in Scotland with its wide sweeping road, ample parking and nearby access to Kelvingrove Park with its beautiful backdrop of the University of Glasgow.
