The annual Wizard Festival enters its fourth year in 2010 and we will be there to capture the two day event on film (so to speak).

Billed as a “magical” little festival, it is based in the heart of the Aberdeenshire countryside just 30 miles from the city of Aberdeen at the New Deer Showground.

The festival won the Evening Express Tourism Award and generated an estimated £250,000 of extra revenue to the region over the previous weekend it was held.

Acts include James, Happy Mondays, Alabama 3 and Sandi Thom. There will also be a dance stage and a variety of DJs to entertain the estimated 6000 visitors.

The organisers pride themselves on this being a family friendly event.  Kids aged 12 and under can go free, as is camping and car parking. ‘Happy Bus’ will be running buses to and from the festival from Aberdeen, Dundee, Dunfermline, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth and local towns. A quiet / family camping area is available and there is an area dedicated to kids called “wee wizards” with magic shows, Gaelic storytelling, music, bucking bronco, climbing wall and games. The event has had no police reported incidents since starting in 2007.

Weekend tickets are priced at £70 and Saturday passes are £45 – but will cost more if purchased on the day. For the variety of performers, this is a fantastic deal. In fact we would be going anyway if we weren’t covering the event.
