Important Changes to Gallery Products and Prices

28th June 2011

We are pleased to announce that we have introduced new ‘framed print’ products to all our client galleries including wedding photography, portraits and pet photographs.

All customers now have the ability to choose from a range of frames in sizes from 10×8” up to 30×30” (mount size) direct from their image gallery. There are up to six frame styles in nine colours available with either single or double mounts in two sizes and seven colours. We have also added an option to allow custom cropping of the selected image. Our frames use high clarity acrylic instead of glass and are supplied in a presentation box. This new range supplements our existing canvas wrap and aluminium wall print products.

In order to apply the new products to all client galleries we have simplified the pricing structure on our web site. As a result, a few galleries may show an increase in prices for some items. This brings galleries created before June 2011 into line with our current prices. If your gallery is within the 30 day price guarantee period and you have been affected by a price increase, we will refund the difference after an order is placed (order payment must be dated no more than 30 days after the gallery creation date). Wedding albums and image discs are not affected at this time.

Culcreuch Castle Wedding Photography

29th April 2011

Today was another warm spring day in Scotland, and where better to be than at a romantic castle wedding in the countryside? Today’s wedding was particularly special as it was for a lovely American couple, Ryan and Jennifer. Organising a wedding from another country can present some challenges and uncertainties and it is important for couples to choose a wedding photographer they can trust. We have served clients from USA, Canada, Australia, Dubai and Norway. The feedback from our clients after today’s wedding says it all…

“Booked everything from across the Atlantic and it all went perfect. We had searched for months for the best photographer that did not cost more than our whole wedding and would really take some creative shots. We found this with Stuart Walker. He showed up early to scope out the venue and stayed late to get some really great photos of the Ceilidh. Would use again, but only getting married once. So, I would recommend to any family or friends in a heartbeat. Also, his website is very easy to use, which others did not offer.”

We would normally advise that a bride and groom meet face to face with wedding photographers, but in overseas or distance weddings where this is not possible we can provide a video conference meeting via Skype if desired.

Culcreuch Castle is a 14th century building and one of Scotland’s oldest hotels. It is located near to the historic former capital city of Stirling towards the Highlands. It makes the perfect venue for wedding photography with acres of open space, woodland and it’s own private loch. The décor in the old building is authentic and well maintained.

Here are a few of the images from the day. To contact us about your wedding, use our new on-line availability checker or call us on 0141 416 5141.

Lynnhurst Hotel Wedding Photography

23rd April 2011

Today I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Shona and Alistair at the Lynnhurst Hotel in Glasgow. We had already shot their pre-wedding session there a while ago but this time it was more flowers than snowflakes!

The room for the ceremony presented a challenge for lighting as the couple were lit mostly from behind. The registrar was happy for me to set up a flash on a stand and this ensured that the couple were captured perfectly. Not all officiants are okay with flash photography, but I have found that on the very rare occasion where it is required most are happy to allow it.

The venue has some nice outdoor areas for wedding photography and thankfully the rain stopped for us. Inside, the Lynnhurst has been beautifully renovated with a good mix of traditional and modern and we made great use of the place for more images.

Inveraray Wedding Photography

2nd April 2011

Today’s wedding was set in the George Hotel in Inveraray. The surrounding area is very picturesque and despite the rain showers, some heavy at times, we ventured out to the local pier to make the most of the backdrop.

The hotel is a popular choice for visitors and is fairly compact, so bear in mind that you and your wedding guests will likely be rubbing shoulders with tourists and locals for some of the day.

Wedding at Lochside House, Cumnock

27th March 2011

Congratulations to Carrie and Paul, who married at Lochside House Hotel in Cumnock. The venue is set in open countryside with lovely views across Ayrshire. The hotel has a large, bright room which is perfect for ceremonies and receptions. There is some building work at the moment, but this did not adversely affect the wedding or photography.

Wedding Photography at Edinburgh Castle

26th March 2011

Today, I had the great pleasure of providing wedding photography for Louise and Paul at St Margaret’s Chapel in Edinburgh Castle. This is the second time I have shot a wedding at this historic and exclusive venue, and once again it was a great success!

edinburgh castle wedding 1 Wedding Photography at Edinburgh CastleThere are many castles in Scotland, but none as iconic as the capital’s major landmark. Of course, the venue is a busy tourist attraction so although the chapel can only accommodate twenty five people, including bride, groom, chaplain, guests (and photographer!) once outside, couples marrying there will have many more onlookers than at most weddings.

edinburgh castle wedding 4 Wedding Photography at Edinburgh CastleBystanders take great interest in marriages at this ‘fairytale castle’ and appear more than happy to accomodate the bride and groom by allowing a clear view of those all-important backdrops. The staff at Edinburgh Castle are always very friendly and efficient, being well practised in customer service, but be aware that although they provide a guide to assist after the ceremony it is not their role to move tourists. When choosing a wedding photographer for this venue be sure that they have a friendly, professional manner and are capable of dealing with dozens of onlookers in order to make the most of the day.

edinburgh castle wedding 5 Wedding Photography at Edinburgh CastleBeing in the heart of the city, there are many excellent reception venues to choose from. Today, we were off to the Apex International hotel a short distance away which has excellent views of the castle from the Heights Restaurant.

Pet Photography Competition – Amos, Mishka and Pearl

14th April 2011

Another ‘at home’ pet photography session in aid of Dogs Trust today with three elderly dogs. Amos, Mishka and Pearl. No time to teach these old dogs new tricks, but we managed to capture their characters all the same.

Pet Photography – Yorkshire Terriers

9th April 2011

Another pet photography session in support of Dogs Trust charity today, with Basil and Alfie the Yorkshire Terriers. Very cute and playful, both the boys were real stars in front of the camera although they just saw it as a new playground…great fun!

This session was a good example of planning ahead, i.e. knowing what I wanted the image to look like and timing. The Yorkies weren’t too interested in staying still for very long so we used a pre-arranged maneuver to capture them for a split second in just the right ‘pose’. Although the last image here shows that even when the timing isn’t perfect, you can still get a great expression. I doubt a human subject would approve if I captured them pulling this face, but it definitely works for pets!

Notice the catchlights in the eye(s) – this is important when photographing dogs as it really enhances the expressions, especially if they have dark iris areas. But that’s enough of the tutorial for now, please enjoy the images and leave some feedback on the blog if you have a moment to spare.

Dog Photography Competition – Riley

3rd April 2011

Second pet portrait session of the day and the sixth so far in the Dog Photography competition in support of Dogs Trust.

This is Riley, a Lurcher cross. A lovely dog with a gentle temperament. His favourite pose was lying on his back withing for a belly tickle!
