Might seem a bit strange blogging about another photographer.. well, actually three so far counting Crash Taylor and Jeff Ascough
but this blog is about photography, not just my photography.
I met up with Ian Arthur today for a good old fat-chewing session over a cup of coffee. Ian is an ‘old school’ kind of guy, and has been covering weddings for many years. If I was getting married soon (which I’m not Izzy!) then Ian is one of the photographers I would have on my [very] shortlist.
So what do two photographers talk about? Well, photography.. duh! Amongst other things, the threat to professional photography from the increasing number of wannabes with a digital camera.
For those stroking their shiny new 450D or Nikon equivalent while reading this thinking “ooh, he means me”.. that depends. What are your goals? A quick buck, or is this your future? Are you insured (business car use / photographers liability and indemnity / business home insurance)? Does the taxman know about you? Do your clients have the protection afforded by a contract and your membership of a professional body? Hmm… maybe wedding photography isn’t quite so cushy after all?
Shame then that many brides looking for a photographer are unaware of these amateurs-posing-as-professionals. If you are looking for a wedding photographer, make sure they meet all the above.. and of course make sure you like them.
