Castlecary House Hotel Wedding

17th April 2010

Second time for me shooting at the Castlecary House Hotel in Cumbernauld – just on our doorstep. This time the occasion was the wedding of Phyllis and David. A very lovely and fun couple who clearly enjoyed the day immensely. I also had the pleasure of working with David McGowan of Beautiful Bride Wedding Videography. So well in fact, Phyllis asked us if we had worked with each other before.

A big thanks to Derek and the staff at the Castlecary for looking after us both and his dry sense of humour. The Castlecary is a very good wedding venue and the staff are very professional and friendly.

The photography started with some shots of David and his Best Men to ease their nerves a little, although as with all weddings a few nips from a hipflask wouldn’t have gone amiss – perhaps I should carry one in my camera bag as a back-up?

Groom and Groomsmen

The wedding ceremony was conducted by Billy from Cumbernauld Registrar’s Office, someone who has officiated at several weddings we have provided photography coverage for, and went very smoothly.

The Wedding Ceremony

The time immediately after the ceremony was spent dodging showers as we captured the all important group shots. The light inside was nice and soft, but when the “golden hour” of soft, warm sunlight arrived we headed back outside to make the most of it.

It was mentioned during the speeches that Phyllis had a strong character, and one of the highlights for me was witnessing Phyllis stopping two young casually dressed guys in their tracks as they headed into the lounge, very firmly asking to know what they were doing. Their sheepish reply was that they were setting up for the band, and that Phyllis actually knew them.

With the first dance underway, I decided to capture some ‘funky’ shots to highlight the movement and colours.
